Fallout 3 Not Working On Windows 8

Windows
  1. Fallout 3 Not Starting Windows 8

Yea a lot of games have that issue, its not Windows 8, and not just fallout. The thing is, pretty much anything that runs on 7 will run on 8.

Bethesda is famous for releasing buggy games. Fallout 4, a Company’s latest release, is a complete mess. It crashes on and on when you install it on Windows 7, 8 and 10. And that’s a niggling concern. But, luckily, we’ve managed to find solutions for you.

The first thing that you should do to play game without crashes and mighty lags is to fix registry errors. There are various kinds of registry cleaner software programs available on the web.

Things you need before fixing the crash

  • Downloading and installing important updates is very important. Why? Most games do not work if you have an obsolete OS.
  • Remember: Update your drivers (audio/video, storage controller, chipset drivers) and stay up to date.
  • You can download all remaining drivers from your motherboard manufacturer’s website. Just make sure that you punch in the correct model name.
  • Update your DirectX files given in Microsoft’s website. Here’s a link to download.
  • Update Microsoft .NET Framework 4 as well.

And now move to the Game:

How to fix Fallout 4 crashes on Windows 7, 8 and 10

Fixing it is more or less the same on all versions of Windows. Make sure that you’ve checked each and every above-mentioned option. Checked? Now follow these simple steps.

  1. Go to MyDocuments.
  2. Go to My Games.
  3. Click on Fallout 4.
  4. You will be able to see a file titled ‘Fallout4Prefs.ini’ (Keep your eyes on the extension name .ini).
  5. Open it in a Notepad (if it’s not in Notepad).
    1. If you can’t open it in notepad, right click on it and click on “Open With”.
    2. From the next drop down menu, choose notepad or “Select a program from the list”.
    3. Choose Notepad.
  6. Now you’ll have to make these changes.
    1. bMaximizeWindow=0 (if you see any other number besides ‘0’, change it to ‘0’).
    2. bBorderless=1 (if you see any other number besides ‘1’, change it to ‘1’).
    3. bFull Screen=0 (if you see any other number besides ‘0’, change it to ‘0’).
    4. iSize H=1080 and iSize W=1920 (This is the resolution of your monitor. If your screen has a higher resolution, you can switch to its native resolution).
  7. Most issues are resolved by switching your game from Fullscreen to Borderless (this fix was also used by several PC gamers playing Mad Max).

Alternate Method

But we’ve got an alternative for you. Beware: More crashes occur because of cranking up video settings that your system cannot handle.

Try a trial-and-error method by switching each and every setting to see which one your system can handle. Furthermore, enable the Borderless option so that you can be ensured that your game does not crash.

If these crashing issues persist, then you’ll have to wait for Bethesda to roll out more patches in the future like it did with Skyrim. As far this issue is concerned, we’re confident that your crashing issues have been resolved, finally!

To resolve Fallout 3 performance issues on Windows 7 or 8, you should first ensure that you meet the game's minimum requirements and you have the latest NVIDIA or AMD graphics card drivers installed. Note: Fallout 3 is not optimized for Windows 7 and later operating systems.

If you continue to experience issues, you can also try the following troubleshooting steps:

Check your Display Settings

Issues associated with launching and playing the game can often be resolved by changing the following display options:

  • Launch the game in Windowed Mode by selecting Options from the Fallout 3 Launcher and ticking the Windowed box under Mode.
  • If using dual monitors, disable your second one from your Windows display settings.
  • Ensure that the resolution of the game matches that of your display monitors by selecting Options from the Fallout 3 Launcher and selecting the correct resolution under Graphics Adapter and Resolution.
