I had to reformat my computer back to factory spec for the record and Far Cry worked fine previously
Now I re-downloaded all three Far Cry 1 files for installation, none are corrupted and they are all in the same place yet when I run the setup application, it always says 'please find the location for part 2'....it's in the same folder! this is a fresh install and like I said all files are good, kinda stuck here.

Can you provide the full filenames of the installer files you have? By full I mean with their file extensions too.Now I re-downloaded all three Far Cry 1 files for installation, none are corrupted and they are all in the same place yet when I run the setup application, it always says 'please find the location for part 2'....it's in the same folder! this is a fresh install and like I said all files are good, kinda stuck here.

peroxide9: Hello, having same problem. What do you mean by filename and extensions? in layman's terms please. Not sure how I can be any simpler than filename and extension as that has been around since the days of DOS. In Windows, a file has a name and an extension. For instance 'example.exe' where the name is example and the extension is exe. The extension tells Windows what type of file it is, whether it be an executable (exe), a text file (txt) a bitmap (bmp), etc. So when I ask for the full filenames and extensions, what I'm asking for is the full names of all the files you downloaded.
Note that Windows, by default, hides file extensions (a bad practice in my opinion as it is a security risk for a user not to know the type of file they are running, and virus executables can hide their icons as anything that might appear innocent). So, to see the file extensions you need to go into Windows Explorer and then the Tools menu and Folder Options. In view, untick the Hide extensions for known file types option.

Thanks for the patient response. I should have known those things (I understand extensions, just didnt know they were called that, just 'file types').
By the way, people reading this thread looking for solutions should try the GOG downloader. For some reason the setup.exe would not recognize the .bin files when downloaded through my browser.

Maybe there was a small error on one or more of the files, that can happen with such big files. The GOG downloader is supposed to autocorrect that, so it's advisable to use it, particularly for such big files.

It could be possible, but I'd have expected any error within the bin files to cause the installer to throw up a message about a corrupt part needing to be re-downloaded, rather than asking for the bin file due to not finding it. The last time I saw someone complain about the installer not locating the .bin other parts, they had renamed the .bin files. This is why I was asking for full filenames in order to compare them with the ones I have and with those as they are downloaded. A tip someone mentioned about the downloader. You can download your files through browser, then start up and stop the downloader to create the necessary download folder within it. Put your manually downloaded files into the downloader's folder and then restart the download with the downloader. It will then check the files you downloaded and if there are any errors it will replace those parts. Can save you having to redownload the entire pack again.
